London, The man who can survive from mesothelioma require an additional injection of testosterone. Injection is done to counter the side effects of cancer treatment such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
British researchers found men who recovered from cancer and had received chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment may experience testosterone deficiency.
In the journal Cancer found about 15 percent of men had testosterone deficiency that can interfere with quality of life and made him feel tired.
Chairman of research Prof Richard Ross of Sheffield University researching the relationship between testosterone levels in the body with the quality of life, sexual function and fatigue factor at 176 men who survived mesothelioma and 213 healthy men of the same age.
Professor Ross said of the result is a young male survivors of mesothelioma decreased quality of life and reduce the level of energy in his body and sexual function. This turned out to be affected by decreasing levels of the hormone testosterone.
"This is an important study showing that low testosterone levels in men who recovered from cancer (survivors) will be impaired quality of life," says Professor Ross, as quoted by the Telegraph, Tuesday (02/23/2010).
Prof. Ross added when intervention is needed to determine testosterone levels required by male cancer survivors to obtain benefits and can improve quality his life back.
Testosterone is a steroid hormone from the androgen group, testosterone is the male sex hormone primary.
The function of testosterone is to increase libido, energy, immune system function and protect the men from the danger of osteoporosis.
If testosterone levels in the body decreases, it is automatically a function of several body parts to be not optimal.
